Upgrade Instructions
Your Home Cookin purchase includes free upgrades for two years. Simply
follow the instructions below to determine if you are eligible. If you
choose not to upgrade after that two year period, you may continue
using your current version indefinitely. While we encourage all users
to use the most recent version, your existing version will never
expire.
Step 1: Find your registration date.
- Version 6.45 and later: Click the About button in the
title bar.
- Version 5.4 to 5.9: Click the Help tab.
- Version 5.0 to 5.3: Click the About button in the title
bar.
- Version 4.9 or earlier: Click the Setup tab.
Step 2: Determine Eligibility.
- If your registration date is LESS than two years old, you
may upgrade for free.
- If your registration is MORE than two years old, you must
renew your registration to use the new version.
A new registration code will be emailed to you promptly (upgrades do
not include a CD or any additional recipes):

Step 3: Install The New Version.

Download the
new trial version.

Open the installation program, and follow the
prompts to install.

Double-click the desktop icon to open Home
Cookin.
Step 4: Transfer Your Recipes.
- If you were using Version 6 or later: By default, these
versions install on top of your old files. Your recipes will be
intact when you open the new version. However, if you changed the
destination folder during installation, you may need to follow the
instructions below as with older versions.
- If you were using Version 5.9 or earlier:Click the
Options tab, then click the Transfer button. This will
scan your hard drives for older versions and let you select the
version you want to transfer recipes from. When you are confident
everything is working well in the new version, you may uninstall any
old versions using the "Uninstall a Program" applet in Windows
control panel ("Add or Remove Programs" applet on Windows XP).

Version 6.47 - In Development...
- Fixed problems with long filenames in file selector.
- Added support for external minimize commands (such as clicking
the program button in Windows 7 taskbar).
Version 6.46 - Jun 22, 2010
- Screen font now defaults to "Microsoft Sans Serif" for improved
compatibility. "MS Sans Serif" or "Arial" are used as alternates if
the default is unavailable before letting Windows make the
substitution.
- Added option on Options screen to let user select the display
font and size, with button to revert to the default font and
size.
- Ingredient formatting now affects the first measure only. This
fixes problems with recipes that have "1 cup tea" or "1 can (8 oz)
tomato sauce).
- Added an option to disable the automatic formatting of recipe
ingredients.
- Fixed formatting errors in PDF cookbook generation.
- Reduced PDF index to two columns to allow for larger fonts and
reduced text wrapping.
- Added photo support to PDF cookbooks, with an optional
outline.
- Increased maximum pages in PDF cookbooks to 2000, with warning
for documents exceeding 400 pages.
- Added "iPhone Grocery Gadget" format to grocery list exporting.
The resulting CSV can be uploaded to the web portal for the iPhone
Grocery Gadget app.

- Fixed a memory leak that prevented photo loading and icons to
disappear.
- Added automatic update system for easier upgrades.
- Redesigned the recipe screen for easier reading.
- Improved smart formatting of recipe ingredients.
- Version designation changed to Version.Revision Number.
- Minor shading improvements to interface buttons.
- Redesigned a new Meals screen.
- Recipes can now be printed directly from Meals screen.

editing.
- Data folder is now checked for access, and will run the installer
again if needed.
- Added check box selection for recipes on the Index screen.
- Minor modifications to Index processing.
- New improved recipe editor.
- Renamed the "Show C/R" option in the recipe editor and changed
the line feed symbol.
- Added range checking to resizing functions.
- Added "Kilo" and "Grams" to right-click menu in recipe
editor.
- Added a few measure conversions when resizing (i.e. 3 teaspoons=1
tablespoon).
- Fixed bug that didn't allow information text to print from recipe
screen.
- Added user selectable screen font size to options screen.
- Minor security additions to reduce hacking.
- Minor changes to internal graphics displays.
- Added checks for Windows version (many system calls are only
available on Windows 2000 and later).
- Removed old code no longer being used (to reduce program
size).
- Fixed bug in grocery printout that prevented some meals from
printing in the optional meal list.
- Meal list at end of grocery printout is now limited to the
current date and later (old meals won't be printed on the grocery
list).
- Updated the program documentation.
- Fixed a bug on the meals screen that affected calendar sizing on
smaller screens.

- Added version header to recipe data file to improve future

- Blocked folder from upgrade scan that only contained trial data

- Improved selection of grocery items. Click ingredient name on
Recipe screen to quickly find grocery items.
- Servings can now be set to zero for recipes that don't have
serving sizes (crafts, pet foods, etc.). Servings are not displayed
or printed when set to zero.
- Manual import now allows overlapping of field selections. This
can be useful for capturing multi-segment recipes with easier editing
later.
- Added right click editing for a line on the manual import
screen.
- Added option to print meal list at the end of a grocery
list.
- Corrected the spelling of the "Mispelled Words" title in the
spell checker.
- Improved pasting function for entry of registration code. A new
paste button will extract the registration code, even if you copy an
entire email.
- The recipe editor can now paste photo's that have been "copied"
in Windows explorer listings.
